I was recently honored by being contacted by one of actor Tommy Lee Jones's personal assistants about making a custom flute for him. This was both a rewarding honor and a challenge.
Tommy's personal assistant said that he had been studying flute makers around the country for the past 6 months, looking for the best and that Tommy was a wood worker himself and would be checking the flute out thoroughly. These were Tommy's first flutes and I wanted him to really enjoy these instruments so I felt obligated to the whole flute community to make these to the best of my abilities.
I named the Mid. E flute "The Masterpiece" because I've never spent so much time on a flute before. The two Mid. A flutes were named "The Brothers" because they were made from the same board and they had laid side by side when in the tree. These two flutes were made for Tommy and his Grandson and they were made as identical as possible.
